WHO WAS ALEXANDER THE GREAT?
Certainly Alexander the Great (magno comes from the Latin magnus meaning "large") was one of the greatest geniuses of war who existed. His father Philip II, king of Macedonia (a small region to the north of Greece), had tried to subdue Greece but he failed and when he died, Alexander finished his work instead with great success. And not only. He went on to conquer and subjugate many other peoples to his government. It not for nothing was called "the Great"! It was he who form the great Macedonian empire!
The Macedonians spoke the same language of the Greeks as both the two peoples came from the ancient Dorians who settled in those lands long before and Alexander, proved so easy to appreciate the culture of Greece. He spread with enthusiasm in all lands of his empire, and it was beloved now by people who came into contact. This phenomenon called Hellenism (love for the arts and Greek literature), also attacked the Romans many centuries after the death of Alexander, who subdued several kingdoms before belonged to him.
If someone asks how did Alexander (born 356 b.C. and he died in 322 b. C.), in just twelve years of reign to form a big empire and spread wherever the Greek culture, is obvious: intelligence, courage and military talent.
